It’s hard to be ourselves around people who hold us to a preconceived notion, refusing to let us reveal our true selves. They're too busy assuming they know everything about us to listen to what we have to say. They might even be staring at us like we aren’t worthy of their time or energy, or even air. Some look at us like we're purely an interruption to the awesomeness that is their lives.510 views

It was heart-breaking to see the kids begging for bottle of water, biscuits or few rupees. Even after four years there, I did not get used to it. It did not become easy to ignore.1,175 views

Sacred items are wonderful things. They cross all boundaries of race, religion, faith and language; they draw the curious attention of those who have their own and hold these items dear. They create an instant bond of the familiar, a shared secret acknowledged in subtle gestures, momentary eye contact, a written confessional. Rosary, japa beads, a yoga mat, a river, a mountain, a temple, mosque or church: whatever form it takes, it is in itself a form of divine yoga, a linking with the supreme through the tangible items that connect us.581 views

My ever growing need for quiet moments desperately outweighed my ability to be compassionate and loving of my family. Something needed to change. I was struggling to be present and adoring, while finding gratitude and balance in my life, all things that were once important to me.1,051 views

It’s not always the yoga - it’s the way it’s delivered. Or maybe it is the style of yoga. Or the personality of the studio. You gotta find a vibe that jives with who you are.854 views

Passion is insufficient. There is no amount of passion that can absolve the sin of clumsy ineptitude. Technique is the mechanism by which passion finds expression. Without technical mastery there can be no artistry, as expertise transforms desire into ability.1,592 views

Like the earlier Vedas, the Upanishads are full of ritual instructions impenetrable to moderns. They are disjoint and unsystematic like the Vedas. But they express a brilliant intention of the spirit that is not present in the previous texts, and they contain the first mention of yoga as a spiritual technique.1,020 views

I killed the puppy with my bare hands. The single toughest thing I've ever done - physically and emotionally. I don't think that I regret it, but at the same time, I'm not sure I did the right thing (is there ever a right thing to do?). Nor am I sure quite what I learnt from the experience. The truth is: I'm still learning from it...2,603 views
