Pixtress Corey Kohn: Photo of the Week, Sage and Pinecones.

“Outcroppings of lichen-spotted rock, twisted gray hulls of long dead pines and spruces, the dry air hot and heavy with the smell of low-growing sage brush, vanilla-scented ponderosa bark and springy, pungent layers of old pine needles. I stomp around before the sun goes down, looking for a good place to sleep, away from the rattlesnakes on the warm rocks, and between the bumpy beds of pine cones and the prickliness of the sage brush. The same spot on the side of this south-facing mountain is home for a night or two year after year. Under the wide-open sky I feel completely protected by familiarity and the feeling that in this wildness there is nothing that I would want to be protected from.” ~ Corey Kohn
