Sam Harris on Jon Stewart: Religion is Immoral; Atheism is Awesome; God hearts Slavery.

“We have a problem—an intellectual and moral emergency—the only people on the planet at this moment who believe there are truly right answers to moral questions are religious demagogues who think the universe is 6,000 years old.” ~ Sam Harris

Great interview. Jon Stewart once again is the only TV head to host such worthy, famous, great minds on unsexy topics, and give them real time and ask tough, fun questions.

Thank you tamingauthorgreg and John G. Your points say it all. The Sam Harris' of the world are a tiresome bunch.

  2. waxbear says:

He says "The God of Abraham clearly expects us to keep slaves"? Do any current followers of the God of Abraham believe this? This would be like saying, "Science tells us that the earth is flat" and "The earth is the center of the universe" by pointing to textbooks from 1491.

I would say that the greatest fault of organized religion is its tendency towards closed-mindedness. I'd also say that about Sam Harris.

  3. Right. While, of course, religion and anti-semitism have never had anything to do with one another…
