Shock Your Chakras! {Boulder/Denver Event ~ This Thursday}

Interview with the Masterminds behind ACTIVATE:

Shock Your Chakras! Saturate Your Senses! Pump up Your Palate!

THIS THURSDAY, June 2nd at 8pm, The Eldorado Springs Art Center just might begin to glow with the latest performance art experiment, ACTIVATE.  From hot dance moves and hand-dyeing to laser beams and lolipops, a night of unexpected action art awaits you with world renowned performance artist Lula Mae Day and myself, Rachel Znerold.

I was miraculously able to score an interview with these two hard-to-reach and high-profile performanceras, and here’s what they had to say about their upcoming show.

RZ: Tell me a little bit about what the audience can expect out of the show.

LMD: Prepare for an evening of heart-pounding, interactive, multimedia entertainment.  ACTIVATE is part comedic dance performance, part live fashion experimentation. Rachel and I will be pushing social boundaries by using our bodies as the canvas, activating our chakras through ritual movements and by ceremoniously dyeing our handmade white jumpsuits in corresponding colors.

RZ: What is your favorite flavor of pie?

RZ: Definitely Strawberry-Rhubard, followed closely by fresh Cherry. Or maybe Key Lime….or Pecan. Heck, I wouldn’t kick any of them out of bed, that’s for sure.

RZ: What are some of your inspirations with this piece?

LMD: Inspired by the words of Annie Sprinkle, “When we make art, we make love to the earth,” this performance is sure to thrill. Weaving together threads from the “slow fashion,” “real foods,” and “eco-sexual” movements, we seek to bridge the gap between art and life.

RZ: If you could be one mythological creature, what would it be?

RZ: Pegasus, for sure. What’s better than a unicorn? A FLYING UNICORN. That’s what.

RZ: You two gals can’t possibly have done this all alone? Who else is involved?

LMD: This collaboration also features original score by Eli Maness, video projections and vee-jay skills by Talbot Walker, and tasty real food bites and handmade dyes sourced from all natural materials. We are also eternally grateful for The Eldorado Springs Art Center  for generously supporting this avant-garde art project.

RZ: What is your record for High-Kicks In A Row?

RZ: 119 strong, but I’m working to beat it each and every day.

RZ: What is The Eldorado Springs Art Center all about?

LMD: ESAC is a community of artists, residents from Eldorado Springs and folks who support connecting with creative people all over the world.  We operate with the belief that communities can work together for positive change and art can be the vehicle for that change.   The Eldorado Springs Art Center has an exciting line-up of artists-in-residence, like Rachel and I, as well as artist exhibitions, workshops, and performances not to be missed.

RZ: David Bowie or David Copperfield?

RZ: Wow. That’s really a toss-up. Bowie wins right off the bat, but Copperfield is totally awesome too. Can’t I have them both?
