I hear you…we don’t do tabloid crap. But this is just a cute little be-be, give me a break…I saw it and liked it and since I don’t know anything about pop culture at all I asked JC a favor, if she’s mention this for us.

That said, we do cover life—all of it—we here at elephant aren’t trying to get away from life and climb up some mountaintop of holiness. We cover art, movies, music, politics…lots of culture stuff. In fact… https://www.facebook.com/elephantjournal#!/ElephantCulture and https://www.facebook.com/elephantjournal#!/ElephantEnlightenedSociety

If we start devoted our limited resources to covering celeb haircuts and Kim Kardashian’s bum, please do call us on it. But let us all chill and allow ourselves to be happy about a lil’baby, hey?

~ Wayway

Instead of selling their baby photos for a cool mill, they started a tumblr. First photos.

“We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this beautiful time in our lives”…

…reads the statement off of proud parents Jay-Z and Beyonce’s new Tumblr blog. The blog is dedicated to their new baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter’s, first official baby pictures.

They totally deserve to be commended here. Do you know how much the tabloids would have paid them for those pictures? Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie sold their baby’s first new born pics for somewhere in the market of $14 million.

Bravo Jiggaman and Bey and best wishes, she’s beautiful.

Will all respect: why is this relevant to Elephant? I come here to get *away* from stories about celebs having babies and Tumblr accounts.

  2. Hollie says:

Sorry, *with* all respect! (No glasses + no coffee = early morning wordos.)

Mary Tonningsen A gorgeous baby and wonderful photos! Thanks for sharing them with us!

Jennie Spark Nice that mother and baby are healthy. I do not understand why it is news. The fact that they didn't sell the photos for a million dollars is about as fascinating as the announcement that the father vowed to stop using the "B" word anymore. *Yawn* I find photos and stories of mothers and babies who survive despite difficulties, who face uncertain futures, who overcome obstacles, etc, much more relevant, interesting and inspiring. The endless articles and gossip about celebrities which attempt to make mountains out of mole hills are a good example of the dumbing down of people. I wish them well, as I do all people, but enough with the aggrandizement. 🙂

Alex Aggro Vader Jebsen No offense but Jay Z is not a handsome man. Heaven help that kid if he looks like its Dad.

NiCara Baldwin Not taking anything away from the Carters for posting their photos for fans to enjoy without taking a profit, but Brad and Angelina took the money from selling those photos and put it into their foundation, which does a lot of good work worldwide. In Pitt's words, “We have to plan an escape every day just to get out of the house — kind of a Mission Impossible with decoys, and that’s the life we live in, and that’s the one we asked for. But we knew there was a bounty on our head … and we know the lengths they go to to get that shot. So we figured, ‘Let’s cut it off in the beginning,’ and instead of that money going to people I do not respect, we would make some good out of it.”

Ironic, then, that you're complaining here. I've never had an addiction to such news, I could give a s****t. That said, I thought the baby was cute. That is all. This is not ground-breaking. It's a moment of human, happy news, and dealing with (literally) 500 mostly-righteous comments over at the John Friend blogs, this represented a grounded, simple, wholesome moment of joy.

Sometimes that's enough. This blog was a hat tip, not All the President's Men II. But thanks for doing the really surprising, tough work of acting all superior to something you readily admit you've enjoyed all your life.

NiCara, thanks for that–great to know they used such a moment to further their good work.

Waylan, if I understand correctly, you can't get a comment to post here, so you addressed me at the top of this post itself? Maybe I'm feeling very sensitive or something, but I kind of feel picked on here. I'm certainly not saying we shouldn't be happy about a little baby…holy moly, babies are awesome! All babies! And yes, they didn't sell the photos. But if I remember correctly, all the money the Jolie-Pitts got for their baby photos was donated to an African charity. So, if celebrity babies are news: which makes more sense? Self-publishing photos and collecting no money, or selling photos and donating the proceeds to helping others?

All that having been said, I do come to Elephant because I respect the content, the forum, and the community of people who care enough to type their opinions in these comment boxes. I appreciate everyone's right to chill and enjoy whatever they enjoy. I also appreciate the opportunity to voice my opinion and hope that I am mis-perceiving being called….I don't know exactly what….for doing so.

  7. I love how people "down arrow" the most concise and possibly nerve-hitting comments….like that'll make them feel better….
