Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp owns 67% of National Geographic Channel. Which explains this.

News Corp owns 67% of National Geographic Channel. Which explains why Nat Geo is suddenly looking like the once-great History Channel.

But whose fault is it? Ours:

“When you’re young, you look at television and think, There’s a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that’s not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want. That’s a far more depressing thought. Conspiracy is optimistic! You can shoot the bastards! We can have a revolution! But the networks are really in business to give people what they want. It’s the truth.” ~ Steve Jobs

And that’s actually the good news: for better and worse, we control our dollars and our views, and our dollars and our views determine what goes on the shelves and on the TV.

Via Reddit: “…don’t forget to clarify that the National Geographic Society is not owned by News Corp.

NG still has a soul.”

How could you allow Rupert Murdoch to control 67% of National Geographic? I am so disappointed and disgusted. I hope and pray that you hire a solid line-up of scientists across the world to tell the truth. If I hear that you're sinking to Murdoch's level, then I'll simply have to withdraw my subscription. Very sad day for me and many others. M. Owen
