This is #45 of 108 Ways to Livin’ the Moment. Let’s take back our lives one beautiful, funny and delicious moment at a time

Bring the Heat

Anyone who is good at anything has technique.

If you watch this week’s World Series, check out San Francisco Giants’ pitcher Tim Lincecum. He is relatively puny at 5′ 10″ and 172 pounds, but he can throw a 98 mph fastball. Such velocity out of such a small frame is attributed to his unique pitching technique.

Or, consider someone with a great yoga practice who has technique in the way of physical alignment.

Or, what about a great parent who has technique in the way of impenetrable boundaries?

They get results!

So is there a technique for living a good life?

As said in the book Ishmael, “We know how to split atoms, how to send explorers to the moon, how to splice genes, but we don’t know how we ought to live.”

A few months ago, I ventured to Brooklyn to spend time with a young artist whose career is thriving. He is getting paid handsomely simply to do what he loves…paint.

I asked his technique. How does one get in such masterful alignment with the universe?

He said he wakes up every morning and reads the Tao Te Ching.

I went home, found my copy (the Wayne Dyer interpretation), and now that’s how I start the day.

It’s like letting the universe speak…before Siri.

It’s like drinking green juice…before beer.

It’s like flirting…before kissing.

So before you start your day, before you throw the first pitch…how about a little windup?

In 2013 (starting in January), I will be offering a series of week-long online experiences that will summarize the lessons I’ve learned from almost 15 years of teaching yoga and traveling the world sharing chocolate, wine, and Jerry Garcia as gateways to the present moment.
