This intriguing video discusses the value of fresh versus frozen foods.
Personally, I think that freezing foods—say, from the summer garden—is a wonderful option in comparison to other preservation methods such as canning, which is time consuming and sadly no longer cost effective, like it used to be back in the “good ol’ days.”
On the other hand, frozen foods require, well, a freezer—which means that there’s energy usage involved—and I’m also all about conserving energy in addition to money.
Still, this video makes a great point: that fresh foods at your local grocery store are not necessarily the healthiest form of produce.
(Which is one reason why I love shopping at a store that only carries in-season produce—even if this means that I can’t eat what my taste buds are really in the mood for).
