“Things Are Gonna Get Easier”
We have much snow. I shoveled out my car with the help of two missionary women, Mormons. I am not a church goer but this group has always been helpful. And they are kind and curious.
I watched a movie, planned to teach, edited an article, texted some friends and was listening to Beth Orton’s song and felt so touched that I checked out the video [see below].
I find comfort in thinking things will get better, though I know in reality they could get worse.
I need more money so am working on that, looking for gigs and work I could do that would allow me to teach and write. I struck out on a lifestyle change to lose weight and create more health. I am working on getting to know my husband better though we now we live apart. I want to be kinder more often. I aim to read more and deepen my asana practice.
And I want to play more.
It’s all relative which isn’t always the best news when the bank account is empty or we are fired or the love of our life broke our heart or we learn mom or dad will die soon. Or we ourselves get a diagnosis that is going to rob of us of our quality of life if not life itself.
I have a gratitude journal. I don’t write in it often but I pulled it to maybe bring it to life again. Because as my teacher said, even in the darkest of times there is light. And that is the light of love that lives in all of us.
I watched the video that goes with the song. Those children live in a different world than mine. I cannot pretend to imagine their hardship.
So as you listen to the song and watch the pictures, one I found particularly disturbing, look inside your heart and listen to what it is telling you. And remember: it’s not what we’re given in life it’s what we do with what we’re given.
I am blessed with education. I am blessed with friends and family. I am blessed to do something I love for a living. I am blessed with faith and hope. I am blessed with health.
Let’s take a minute and fold our hands for those who may not have so many blessings. I know we all know a few. Count our blessings and offer the light of our heart to someone who may need to feel love.
We know even if we cannot see the face of the one’s we want to touch we touch them with our thoughts and love all the same.
Love elephant and want to go steady?
