Our Uncounted Blessings. ~ Brian Beatty {Poem}

rain

The sun rises

on our homes and
shines through

our windows
whether we deserve it or not.

Birds nest above our doors
mocking us with songs that sound
beautiful to our ears.

And the occasional rains
that rinse our windows clean

so we can see
our tormentors return with worms intended for others
(since we never leave) sometimes wash

our woes down creek
upon those even poorer

than us —
meaning we’re
like royalty in the eyes

of a lot of folks.
