Traditionally, circuses have provided entertainment and fun for those sitting in the stands, spectating.

From clowns, to tight-rope walkers, to trapeze artists, the circus offers a quite a variety in terms of entertainment.

However, there is one aspect of the circus that is neither fun nor entertaining—the cruel and detrimental treatment of animals.

Historically, a wide variety of animals have been included in circus acts and displays, including: elephants, large cats, horses, bears and sea lions.

Not only are circus animals removed from their homes and natural habitats to participate in the travelling shows, but the animals often endure harmful and violent “training methods” in order to achieve the “tricks” they are expected to perform.

The following infographic exposes some of the atrocities that circus elephants must endure. These cruel practices are still occurring today!

Let’s  all think twice before purchasing a ticket to a show that perpetuates animal abuse!
