Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness characterised by disturbances in a person’s thoughts, perceptions, emotions and behaviour.
I produced this info-graphic to highlight changes in current thinking about the illness.
Today Schizophrenia affects around 26 million people across the world. Despite being a treatable disorder, more than 50% of people with schizophrenia cannot access adequate treatment.
You will learn from this info-graphic that not everyone with schizophrenia has the same symptoms and that the definition of the disorder is broad, and can include a combinations of different symptoms and conditions.
With access to the treatment and support they need, there is no reason why people with schizophrenia cannot lead happy and productive lives.
