“Where words fail, music speaks.” ~ Hans Christian Andersen
Those words have always resonated with me.
What is it about music that strikes a chord so deeply in the hearts of people?
I believe it goes all the way back to our ancient ancestors. Before man had language—sonic vibrations were used. Today this might be referred to as a mantra.
The word mantra contains two root words. The first being “man” which means to think. The second is “tra” which means to protect or free. So one could translate the word mantra to mean being free from our thoughts.
So what does this have to do with music? Well, put simply—music is the sound of vibrations.
When we listen to music—and we hear the beating of the drum or the chanting of people singing—we are connecting back to our basic roots of sonic vibration. We are listening to a mantra. We are freeing ourselves from the thoughts that bind us.
I can safely say that music has saved my life on more than one occasion.
With that being said, I hope you listen to this song by the up and coming indie folk trio, WILD—and maybe find your way back to what your heart truly desires.
