I’m Not so Complicated. {Poem}

Unsplash/Alejandra Quiroz

I’m not so complicated.

I just wanted everything you had to offer and then some.

I wanted whiskey soaked kisses by the fire,

I wanted to taste myself on your tongue.

I wanted your smoldering gaze to ignite me for a lifetime.

I wanted your electric fingertips to trace the places you so loved,

I wanted to feel you pull me closer and deeper around you,

I wanted the integrity of our intimacy to be the currency between us

until there was nothing left to spend.

I wanted every smile that spread across your face

and all the tones of your laughter

to play my heart strings out like a piano.

I wanted to set adrift in the blue-gray ocean depth of your eyes

where time suspended and I always seemed to get lost.

I’m not so complicated.

I wanted everything you had

and then some.
