A Minute More. {Poem}

Courtesy of Author, Karen Christine

You kissed me goodbye in the morning,
Told me you loved me as I walked out the door.
If I had known you were leaving that day,
I would have lingered a little bit more.

Held you a little tighter,
Been late to catch my train,
So I could feel you near me—
Didn’t know I’d never feel that again.

I would have made love to you a thousand times,
With my heart, my body and my mind.
Showed you how to believe that we were worth trying,
I would have lain down with you, like we were both dying—

And spoken every word I had never said.

I’d say, you don’t have to say a word,
Just let me love you a minute more.
Let me give you all I have to give,
Before I can’t anymore.

I’d say, I’ll love you until my soul turns to stardust,
Let me know you just a minute more.
Let me give you all I have to give,
Before I can’t anymore.

I kissed you goodbye in the morning,
Told you I loved you as I left for the day.
If I had known you were leaving, my love,
I would have kissed you ‘til our fears fell away.

Held you a little tighter,
Been late to catch my train.
So I could feel you near me,
Didn’t know I’d never feel that again.
