The Beautiful, Little Known Prince Song you Need to Hear.

“Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish that life was never ending,
But all good things, they say, never last” ~ Prince, “Sometimes it Snows in April”

.

The news of Prince’s death at age 57 hit me hard.

I grew up listening to “1999” when it was still so far off as to seem an impossible date. “Purple Rain” remains an iconic ballad that still gives me chills, and I can’t listen to “Little Red Corvette” without bopping around in an 80s style rhythm.

But the Prince song that means the most to me—the one I thought of on this April day, when I heard of his death—is one that most people haven’t ever heard. I discovered a cover of it on a Shawn Smith album, and fell in love at first lesson with it.

I can’t think of a more appropriate song to listen to today, as I mourn the passing of one of my generation’s most mysterious, most talented musicians:

“Sometimes it snows in April
Sometimes I feel so bad, so bad
Sometimes I wish that life was never ending,
But all good things, they say, never last

All good things that say, never last
And love, it isn’t love until it’s past.”
