Ode to my Celestial Companion. {Poem}

Unsplash/NASA

You’re hundreds of thousands of miles away—
Yet when I look out my window, there you are.

Every night, you appear without fail.
I trust you. I can depend on you
Because no matter the conditions,
I know you’ll always be there.
Not everyone notices when you come,
But that doesn’t stop you from coming.
That doesn’t stop you from looking over all of us.
Not everyone appreciates you—
But I do.
Every night, I admire your radiance and beauty.
I talk.
You graciously listen.
Thank you for letting me share my hopes, anxieties and secrets with you.
Thank you for always burning bright
Through the darkness,
Keeping me and everyone else safe at night.
You are part of us,
And we are part of you.
Thank you for all that you do.
With that, I bid you a Good Night
Until we meet again tomorrow night.
