On Saturday, May 18, 2019, we have a full moon in the astrological sign of Scorpio at 28 degrees.
The Sun merges with the “Messenger God,” Mercury in the sign of Taurus, bringing together thoughts and communication as they relate to earthy matters. We are inclined to perceive matters through the lens of perseverance and steady progress, where events may unfold in a slow and methodical rhythm. Diligence is highlighted over speed.
Both the Sun and Mercury in Taurus are supported by harmonious aspect to transiting Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, providing focus and determination for the areas in which we seek long-term changes. This is earth energy so we can make real that which we have earned through hard work and consistency.
Venus merges with Uranus to fuse love with electricity and impulsivity, making possible certain moments of “awakening” to the feelings in our heart. We can see unexpected attractions and realizations as to ways we have been asleep to our desires and transfixed by aspects of mundane life. The heart receives a wake-up call. The ebb and flow of relationship receive an infusion of invigorating energy, supporting the reinvention of new ways of being in a relationship.
Mars, in the early degrees of sensitive Cancer, favors seclusion and the comforts of what is already known. There is tension here between choosing safety versus answering the moon’s invitation to take an emotional risk. Passive-aggressive tendencies may surface.
The full moon in watery Scorpio reminds us that our human journey is laden with overwhelming, intense, and potentially frightening emotional currents that cannot be buried for long before they, too, seek expression.
Some Reflection Questions to Consider during the Full Moon:
>> How can I give expression to my intensity and emotionality while attending to the practical matters of my daily life?
>> How can I bring more awareness to where I am passionate and live from there?
>> How have I been hiding or playing it “safe” and denying my own need for psychological and emotional intimacy?
>> In my attempt to retain a sense of normalcy, how am I sabotaging my authentic growth process?
>> How can I bring more awareness to my own drive for power, sex, and control?
>> How do I address darker emotional states within myself as they emerge, such as rage, anger, jealousy, and contempt?
>> Where might I be unnecessarily clinging to patterns, habits, or relationships that ultimately inhibit my full expression?
>> What is it that I truly, deeply feel in my most honest, unguarded moments?
Every full moon suggests bringing balance to the polarities inherent in the sun/moon opposition. With Sun in Taurus opposite moon in Scorpio, emotional intensity weighs in to counterbalance the practical, sensual nature of Taurus.
In Taurus, we walk upon solid earth and concern ourselves with simple material comforts and sensual pleasure. In Scorpio, we dig below the earth for a richer, more emotional experience riddled with complexity and nuance.
We must invite a deeper perspective into our awareness during this full moon. Pretense is seen through as false in Scorpio territory. Transparency is the currency here we seek to explore.
To romance, the shadow is to walk this world. It is here where we can finally stop lying to ourselves about what is and is not working in our lives. Whether by means of a journal, psychotherapy, or a dear friend, we must find the courage to express as much of our experience as we can bear. We see our delusions, paranoia, and fears in Scorpio. We uncover where we or others have not stood in integrity, have fallen from grace, have engaged in manipulation, and have raged internal wars.
In the land of anger and pain, amidst the storms of rage and jealousy, the darker undercurrents of the human experience are revealed to us. To move beyond defensive strategies and see such themes in one’s mind or heart alone is a powerful, brave beginning. Finding the courage to express these themes in a safe way, within the context of human relating, is how the experience of genuine intimacy is even possible.
With Scorpio, we are recovering our wholeness and moving into a more psychologically mature and graduated sense of completion. Honest expression with trusted others proves to be critical in reclaiming the vitality of this polarity.
It is in surrendering to our feeling nature during this full Scorpio moon that we gain access to the Big Mystery and the greater opportunity to open to the experience of everything and everyone more deeply.
