Broken Promises

Broken promises. The lies ’we’ believe become the truths ‘we’ defend. Let that sink in for a minute. ‘We’ believe the lies because ‘we’ want or need them to be true. Yes, ‘we’ screwed up our lives that bad so ‘we’ defend our addiction that much more. We cling to the mantra that ‘we’re ok’ when the truth is that we are lost, our lives had become unmanageable. We defend our choices to the point of being alienated by our real friends and families. We embrace the lies that our addiction fed us secretly hoping that everything will be ‘alright’ but knowing deep down that it won’t. Addiction is a cunning, powerful baffling beast that controls us. What other disease could make people walk away from their life? Children? Jobs? What other disease can make us do these despicable acts to keep feeding it? People in active addiction (trying to be more politically correct here) aren’t capable of making wise decisions, ‘we’ are incapable of distinguishing between ‘right and ‘wrong.’ All we know is the sweet promises of escape that our addiction promises us. Ever hear the story of the successful addict? I’m guessing no. The only success stories you hear are from addicts that sobered up to find a life free from drugs or alcohol. Those recovery success stories are real because I know a ton of people that own them. They got their lives back and so can you. Go home, go back to the people that love you and only want to see you do better for yourself. You don’t have to hide your Recovery, it welcomes you with open arms no matter what, but you gotta want it for ‘you.’
