Baby Love–Remember?

Look into the crib.

See it?

Bundle of warm and squirmy

Sleepy and mumbly.

Smells like powder.

My powder.

Tiptoe, quiet, hold my breath.

MOM! Noise. Noise. Noise.

Whew! In the rocker, quiet again.

Clean clothes, wrapped in a blanket.

Can I see it? Can I hold it? What is it?

Baby. Brother. Steve.

Watching, reaching, touching

Soft hair, tiny hand, warm cheek to kiss.

Can I have him? In my lap, hold him?

Careful, he’s tiny.

Careful, he’s special.

I will keep him, Mommy.

Keep him warm,

Give him my toys.

Would he like my toys?

My spaghetti?

I can teach him to sing.
