How to Live a Passionate Life.

“Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.” ~ George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel

As much as we’d like to believe that we are driven by money, power, status, or relationships, the fact is that we are not.

Those are just means to fulfill our underlying needs that provide the fuel for our actions or inactions.

We can have the world at our feet and yet be disgruntled, dissatisfied, and detached.

We often forget or are conditioned to believe that it’s only what you can show to the world that matters the most.

So we chase and chase, till the fuel runs out.

Life is much more than just doing things. It’s about living. It’s about feeling each breath and coming alive in every moment.

As Professor Keating said in the famous movie “The Dead Poet’s Society,”

“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We are members of the human race and the human race is filled with passion. Medicine, Law, Business, Engineering—these are noble pursuits necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love: these are what we stay alive for.”

It’s about finding that one thing (or more things) that sets our souls on fire—that makes us feel alive and pushes us beyond the mundane, the ordinary, and the routine. It’s that thing that keeps us sane.

It’s about making the routine come alive! We can be in love with our machines, be passionate about helping people or about standing up for justice. That is passion—it drives or should drive everything that we do.

That’s what makes everything worth the trouble, the pain, and the risk.

“I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance,
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances, but they’re worth takin’,
Lovin’ might be a mistake, but it’s worth makin’…”

~ “I hope you dance” by Leanne Womack

Every job that we take up, relationships we strive for—if they are born out of true passion, their flavor will be entirely different!

It’s like eating the same dish that we eat at home every day at a fancy restaurant. It looks amazing, the fragrance is great, and the sight of it fills our belly with joy!

That’s the difference that passion makes. It fills our minds, hearts, and, sometimes, our bellies, with the utmost joy and happiness.

Passion is about finding and being one with that thing that ignites our souls.

In essence, all the great inventions and advancements have been products of passion.

Passion drives us. It makes us dig deep into our souls.

It makes us go into the crevices of our minds that we didn’t even know existed.

What makes you come alive?

What fills your heart with joy?

What’s that one thing that truly, wholly belongs to you?

Passion is energy.

What energizes you?

Despite the chaos and the clutter outside, what brings you clarity and peace within?

At the end of the day, the secret of a well-lived life is not to do what “needs” to be done.

A lot of us confuse passion with drive. Drive is born out of motivation and a sense of urgency to reach the destination. It is the product of our need.

Passion is born out of love and desire. It has nothing to do with the destination or an end result.

Dance because it makes you come alive.

Sing because it brings out your essence.

Cook because it puts a smile on your face and satiates your soul.

Write because it’s a reflection of you.

Play because it infuses you with energy and happiness.

Love with all your heart because that’s what makes relationships worthwhile.

“Being Passionate” is the destination itself.

It’s about infusing your energy into your life.

It’s to own it with your heart, body, mind, and soul.

It’s about being passionate about the greatest asset that you have—you, and everything that you can create.
