Overheard and Overwhelmed

It was a beautiful sunny day, warmer than predicted and still early enough in the summer season to feel like the reunion of a favorite childhood memory. I pulled into a parking lot with my windows rolled down and was hit with the coldest winter boned splintering icy chill. I was killed right then and there. What killed me was the overheard telephone conversation in the parked car to my left. I cannot replay it word for word, but he was arguing with the mother of his children who seemed to have just threatened to take them away from him. “Those are my kids and they love me…” It went on for a while with repeated hang ups and redials until I could not take another moment and pressed on with my life as I knew it before. I do not have any children myself, but I know that I would kill and eat any one or thing that tried to do that to me. I could not find any joy for the rest of the day.
