What an Indian erotic icon, Silk Smitha taught me !

Few days ago, I cam across a very famous personality , Silk Smitha. She was timelessly introduced to me through an amazing film called The Dirty Picture , produced by Ekta Kapoor and starring Vidya Balan as a lead role which she amazingly portrayed and won the hearts of many through her performance.

Little did I know that the character of this film , Smitha was actually based on an erotic  actress of South who dominantly later on worked in many other films too her total film count being upto 450 films in just 2 years.

S Smitha was a gem discovered by some top shot director during his shooting in a city and from there she starred in her first film, Vandichakkaram after which she got her stage name as Silk which she decided to keep all her life. Smitha was born in a very poor family, and was married off very early to a man who subjected her to abuse. Nevertheless, she became the woman of her dreams and hence also a sex symbol of India.

Here are some things I learnt from Smitha’s life –

  1. Never apologise for being sexy- Smitha was in the show-bizz for so long because she was unapologetically sexy and comfortable in her own, That is why its always said, sexiness comes from within. It has nothing to do with your skin or body but rather how comfortable you are in it.
  2. Be independent, make your own money- Whether its making money from making random videos or by selling something, it is very important to be financially independent on your own. Don’t be dependent on your parents for too long as that can turn out to be very toxic.
  3. Art is never supposed to validate your opinions-This is so true, art is never supposed to justify. If you find only flowers beautiful and a sexy woman in all her beautiful flesh as “ugly”, then you my dear friend need to open your mind and realise that art is art. It doesn’t have a form , a shape or external features. It never is created by an artist to be liked or disliked. Similarly erotic artists aren’t supposed to validate your opinions, neither is your art be it any art type.
