Jon Farzam on Myths about Philanthropy

A lot of people have misconceptions about philanthropy. They think it’s only for the rich or they don’t know what to do with their money, so they give it away. These are just a few myths! This blog post will debunk four myths and provide you with some great advice on being more charitable in your everyday life.

Small Donation Don’t Matter

This is a myth that keeps many people from donating at all. People think that their donations can’t impact just because they aren’t making large, noticeable donations. This is not true! Even the smallest of contributions can add up to something more. And it’s all thanks to your support.

I Don’t Have Enough Money

This is another myth that negatively impacts philanthropy. People think they will need to spend money to make a difference, but this isn’t true! There are countless ways to give back without spending money – you can donate clothes, food, furniture, and even time!

Making a Donation Does not Benefit Me

People think that it is not beneficial to them because they are donating their money, time, or resources. It’s the complete opposite – when you support a cause with your time and money, you often feel much better about your life! Even studies show people who volunteer live longer than those who don’t!

I Don’t Believe in Philanthropy

This is the funniest myth of them all, but it’s also reasonably common. People believe that they are not a philanthropist because they don’t attend fundraisers or donate money to causes. This couldn’t be further from the truth – if you support charitable causes or people in any way, then you are a philanthropist.

Being a Philanthropist is Wasting Money

People think that giving away their money or resources means that they are wasting them. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Giving to others encourages you to spend your money wisely and avoid overspending. Plus, donating makes you feel better about yourself and your money.

Conclusion

Don’t even let a misconception stop you from your dreams. This means that those looking to get involved in philanthropy shouldn’t stop here. There are so many worthwhile causes out there that need your help right now!
