I want to let you in on a huge secret; one that has been kept from us for much too long…
You offer value by simply being.
The seemingly simple act of existing as a consciousness on this planet means that you are inherently valuable. Before you ever express or act, before any change is prompted by you, the value is already there.
You are the personification of value.
All the memories, emotions, and experiences you posses serve only to add on to this already inherent value. All of these things have coalesced into this moment of who you are.
This simple truth was a mind-blowing epiphany for me.
In 2017 I was burnt out. I had been trying for so long to be someone. To impress someone. Myself? My family? My perceived enemies? Perhaps all of them even. The point is that I was exhausted, physically, mentally, and spiritually. I had been operating from a skewed perspective of value. I thought that to be valuable meant to be noticed, accoladed, remembered.
I believed that unless someone would be making a statue out of you, or writing a biography of your life some day, hundreds of years in the future, you were really just existing. Not living.
I get it, it’s a romantic idea, right? Even Oscar Wilde said it himself, in his quote: “To live is the rarest thing in the world; most people just exist.”
And while I love and wholeheartedly agree with this quote, what do we perceive to be living? Usually, in our productivity-minded culture and society, we see it as doing. But I believe Mr. Wilde had a different perspective. I believe when he said live, he meant to be. To truly be in the most fundamental ways. To experience life. To live according to our own desires, and wishes. To not waste our precious days worrying about expectations of others, or ourselves.
When I realised that I had nothing to prove to anyone, that I am here as a part of something that is already whole, that every person in this world is connected by something beyond ourselves; this was the day I truly began to live.
I want to see everyone live life this way. To realise that it is in the simple moments, picking the flowers, swimming in the ocean, having a cup of coffee, petting the dog, gazing at the sky… these simple moments have so much value inside of them, if only we take the time to look.
Essayist and author G.K. Chesterton once wrote: “The world will never starve for want of wonders; but only for want of wonder.”
What are we missing as we strive for recognition? What wonders are passing us by in our race to 100k followers, or the million dollars?
I want you to see your value, and to understand that you are so precious. You are a part of the collective consciousness, the quantum field… you are literally all space and time itself experiencing the exhilaration of being an individual. You are separate, and yet, you are never alone.
With all of this being said… where will you go from here on out?
Where will your adventure lead, now that you realise it is not the arrival that matters, but the in-between?
This is your story, and it gets to be a good one.
