18 Puranas’ Names and a Short Introduction

We can learn a lot about the social, religious, and cultural life of ancient and mediaeval India through the Puranas. It is interesting that several of these writings shed significant light on India’s early political history despite exaggerations, myths, and legends. The meaning and implications of sin and virtue in our lives are explained in diverse ways by the Eighteen Maha Puranas. They go into great detail about what our lives should be about in order to become more moral and capable of achieving the four Purusarthas, or dharma, artha, kama, and moksa. As a result, the Puranas provide an explanation of the true meaning and purpose of existence, contributing in their own unique way to the welfare of humanity.
