This isn’t just any loofah, it’s special because it was given to me by someone who grows them, directly from his vine.
And it brought to mind something I’ve been talking about for a while.
A way to find the extraordinary in our everyday sensuality.
A way to become more present in our bodies.
A way to have moments of greater awareness.
Sensuality is a powerful way to have deeper experiences of ourselves, of our bodies, our hearts.
Sensuality is a powerful way to feel more, sensation and emotion.
Sensuality is a powerful way to be more in our bodies.
Sensuality is a powerful way to have moments of meditation.
Sensuality is a powerful way to feel more alive, more vital.
Sensuality is a powerful way to access moments of quiet within ourselves.
Sensuality is a powerful way to deepen our appreciation of ourselves.
Sensuality is a powerful way to become more intimate with ourselves.
Sensuality is a powerful way to become more aware of our bodies.
Sensuality is a powerful way to have moments of Divine Awareness.
And there are so many ways for us to experience our sensuality.
There are the sensual rituals we teach in many workshops.
And then there’s the coffee and the loofah.
Everyday experiences with extraordinary possibilities.
First let’s talk about the coffee.
This is a way to experience our sensuality in many ways.
Take a breath in, a deeply slow breath.
Bring your focus to yourself, for a moment.
Maybe close your eyes.
Hold the cup in your hands, feel the weight, feel the warmth.
Bring the cup to your face.
Breathe the aroma in.
Take a sip, one sip.
Taste, feel the coffee in your mouth.
Swallow, taste, feel the coffee inside you.
Just one sip.
You can do this with anything you eat or drink.
One sip, one mouthful.
Now the loofah.
And this is also where sensuality has such extraordinary possibility.
Let’s use the word grooming.
Many things we do that are so ordinary.
Let’s start with the loofah.
In the bath or shower.
Take a breath.
Feel the water on your skin, the texture, the temperature.
Feel where the water touches you, where you meet the water.
Maybe you use some soap, a body wash.
Maybe with your hands, with a sponge.
How the different parts of your body feel.
Then the loofah.
The texture on your skin, the coarseness.
All over your body.
It can be a minute or longer.
It can be brushing your teeth, your hair.
Putting lotion on.
Once a week I use a shaving brush and soap, a delicious sensation of the warm water, the aroma of the soap, the feel of the brush on my skin…
Simple moments, everyday moments.
With extraordinary possibilities.
One moment, one sip, one mouthful, one breath, one taste, one stroke, one smell…
Sensual possibilities, limitless possibilities.
