Walk the Talk Show with Waylon Lewis presents:
Calling for a Cultural Shift:
Waylon Lewis (and you!) gets to learn from Jeanine Canty as they speak about her new book Returning the Self to Nature. Read an excerpt of it here: From Individual to Collective Narcissism: a Cultural Shift.
“The world of the narcissist is not a kind space. Very few people enjoy being around someone who is self-centered, arrogant, volatile, and insincere—probably not even the narcissist.” ~ Jeanine Canty, Returning the Self to Nature: Undoing Our Collective Narcissism and Healing Our Planet
A clip of our conversation:
“I dated someone who might be classified as a narcissist. It did not go so well. I’m not a licensed therapist, so I can’t diagnose someone with narcissistic personality disorder…and it’s really hard to do it. But we all self-diagnose and diagnose casually.
It got me reading a range of examples, from academic to pop psychology to blogs from people who have been in relationships with narcissists. And it was all like these people are evil and whatever you do, you should get away from them.
But for me, it brought up compassion, and basic goodness, and realizing that my orientation leads me to believe that when there’s a psychological disorder in the community, it’s not about the person—it’s actually about the community.” ~ Jeanine Canty
