I’ve worn the skin of woman scorned,

Of maiden lost in time —

I’ve donned the role of shy, demure

And trampled in her prime

The girl next door, the pixie dream,

The damsel in duress,

Persona false, my grand facade

My longing to impress

The maiden in the moonlight,

The artist’s chosen muse,

I long to find my silenced truth

Beyond my costumed ruse

Behind each mask, the whispered plight

Of woman on the run—

To shed the guise of countless lives,

I long to come undone

A molting girl, a basilisk,

A cherub & a flame—

It matters not my epithet,

A rose by any name

I’ll bloom in all my glory,

Ambitious, bold & free

And nod to every girl I’ve been

And all that I may be.
