Advice for Stormy Weather. ~ Waylon H. Lewis

Advice for stormy weather: wear a good hat.

Winslow Homer - The Fog Warning (lightened)

Don’t listen to the common wisdom: keep that heart open. As a wise man once wrote, to love anything is to risk being hurt. That’s not only okay but jolly good and cheering. You’ll find a love for yourself, if not another, worth caring for.

True resilience is found in being present, navigating the white water with flexibility born of humor, heart, and presence.

Keep strong loving women, elder and partner, near.

Hold hands often.

And when the sky falls, dance in the shade of wise green trees—or head to your nearest local indie bookshop or cafe.

Love this planet with curiosity.

Be kind to animals.

Be willing to swim upstream in a speedy uncaring cruel world that regards caring as annoying, inconvenient, pretentious.

And remember that all humans are basically good, but don’t let their occasional aggressions win the day.

Meditate.

Cuddle.

Get good sleep.

Dedicate oneself to being of benefit.

And be willing to be surprised by auspicious coincidence: magic is real, but it’s so ordinary we miss it, walking as we text, bulldozing where we should nurture, silo-ing when community calls.

Take a good sweet breath, in and out.

We’ll find a way forward.
