Emery. I chose her name because it meant gritty. Perhaps that was a prophecy, perhaps I knew. Maybe she is fulfilling her little fortune.
The kid has a lot of heart. She knows no fear; nor does she listen when the world tells her no. She doesn’t listen to me when I say no either, by the way.
I see the side of me that is the animal lover, the adventurer, the bold risk taker and the lover of life. She is no-holds barred.
She pretends she does not need anyone, but is quick to squirrel up into my lap when she can sneak there. On occasion, when no one is looking, she will steal a kiss. When her guard is down she will snuggle. If you’re the lucky person whom she trusts, she will pull up tight.
The cord of connection I feel with her is so strong; some of it is because I am her mother. I wonder if that connection from parent to child isn’t because of the vision of what the child embodies of yourself?
I look at her qualities and they help me to enjoy those same things about myself, to love myself more, as I love her. My heart swells.
