Breaking News…the news is R rated. I have never heard the word “Sexual” so many times in my life, that was until this President was elected. Who thought that I would have to talk about “pussy grabbing”, sexual assault, and sexual misconduct to my 10-year-old. Where did he learn these words or phrases, the NEWS?
I remember when my family would gather around the TV in the living room at 6 pm. We would tune into the national news to learn what was going on in the country and the world. It lasted 30 min and was not there to make money but was there to inform the citizens. And all the channels stories mirrored each other, all 3 national news shows.
Those times are long gone. We have news all around us. Cable news, Blogs, Internet sites, Facebook, Twitter, and the list is growing. As that list grows we see them catering to narrower and narrower audiences. They are tailoring their message to a certain demographic with high efficiency.
There is a tidal wave now of Breaking News. Most of it is to just get our eyeballs on the screen, big or small, in a highly competitive and profitable new machine.
I just never thought I would have to cover my kid’s ears when the news came on.
