Did You Feel That?

Something shifted last week.  I don’t know if you felt it yourself, but I know it wasn’t just me.

As best I can explain, it involved many of us realizing that a project we had been working on devotedly was mediocrely successful, but that in order to really be magnificent, some reassessment and reorganization was necessary.

So instead of pushing through and working harder and forcing success, the realization dawned that pulling back, thoughtfully auditing, and relaunching after a period of imaginative scheming and slower evolution would ultimately bear more fruit.

For different folks this took the form of dropping out of a degree program, acknowledging the need to heal from an injury before more training, changing the feel of a personal relationship, and slowing output of a publishing endeavor.

This gentleness with self and change in the definition of “progress” has left me at different times disappointed, relieved, and thankful, with a great attitude about the future.

Sometimes, we have to be shocked into these kinds of changes by illness, or intense grief, or some kind of catastrophe.  I am grateful that this time, the guidance could be received without all that.

I hope some part of this softly touched you this week and maybe even helped you though a tough decision.
