Home of the Brave
America
Land of the free? Or,
land of the free-wheeling,
freeway rides taken
through a forest of billboards
making less of an eyesore than
wind-turbines
but, hey—
was capitalism ever about good optics?
and America,
where the homeless
stand like chapels
on every corner intersection,
hands outstretched
like ushers
a collection basket of cardboard,
and an expression to match,
listening for those,
sweet catholic bells of jingling change,
apparently less of a nuisance
then maybe,
affordable housing
though,
has capitalism ever had a good ring?
