I know all too well the separation of young infant children from their parents. It is an unnatural severing of safety, unconditional love and sense of self. The child’s only known sense of existence is through the eyes of their parents/caregivers. My nephews lost both parents barely out of diapers – unnatural, unforeseen, unreal. The separation of immigrant children from the parents is a traumatic issue right now that will become a public health issue in the future. These children need their parents now and our support; and we need to stand by them as they have the chance to heal. Their individual lives affect us all, as it must.
