You know when you are just spacing out and focus on something that you did not even intend to or aware of? Well, that is pretty bad if you are waiting at the car dealership for a simple oil change that will take somehow 2 hours and you found yourself gazing to the private parts of a guy, who actually somehow realized what you were looking at, if I had intentionally tried to get his attention probably I might not have been successful.

Recomposing being ashamed of my act (although I could have been looking at a donut more passionately)  I quickly thought  the best save of that moment was to avoid eye contact and  move my blank gaze to another point in the area, trying to keep my calm and lalala as if I really did not notice what just happened.

Life is full of these haphazard happenings, which sometimes cause us joy, sometimes cause us pain, embarrassment,  could cost your job, could land you in a new job or totally blow a project that you have been working for years, or at least causing a setback that requires damage control.

How to mitigate such happenings if they bother you? Short than being 100% present and not allowing to daydream or loose focus even for a second, which would kill your humanity, creativity along with your life, and get you labeled as a stuck up control freak, there is no guarantee that you will not fall into these unintentional body cues that land you in a mental minefield.

So what is a person  to do?  You can be proactive and decide to Own them when they happen! Yeah if you stared at the private parts  of a guy unintentionally, make eye contact and smile.  Actually puppies do it naturally see the cutie on the photo owning someone elses beach lounge chair with confidence? They know how to won their actions.

If you mess up something in a project call it testing the limits or exploring more efficient paths to the objective,

If you inadvertently call someone by the wrong name – well that’s a hard save – but you can say they look so much like a friend that you love so much that you mixup their names – just make sure you do not get talked into showing a picture to prove the resemblance.

Exercise this ‘Owning it’ muscle and who knows you might get a kick out of how life changes s your perspective has just changed the ooooppsss into something bold.

Own ON!
