here’s what I ask
tell me the shape of
your type of mask
the masks that we wear
the masks that we buy
the masks we create
in order to hide
the veils we live under
the spells that entrance us
the cost of our truths
the names of our masters
the ones we bow down to
give all of our earnings
the heightened positions
for which we’re all yearning
the higher up climbing
the ladder of wanting
desire is burning
our wish-lists unending
now tell me how much
of these loans you’ll need lending
shedding our masks
takes breaking not bending
the breaking of habits
the breaking of speed
the breaking of grasping
for more than we need
consuming while drowning
in oceans of greed
seeking a way
in which to be freed
