The Magnificent I AM. While practicing my Meta, which I developed as a homework assisgnment for a Mindful Self Compassion class I’m taking, I stumbled upon this revelation. With each practice, my Meta took on a life of its own, using my original thoughts as a starting point.

During week 4 of my 8 week MSC (mindful self compassion) class, we were exploring loving-kindness.  We were given an example from which we were to create our own loving – kindness meditation or Meta.  My original version went like this:

May I have love

May I have peace

May I have honesty

As I began to practice this Meta, the words slowly changed themselves!  At first I was bothered by the change of my thoughts but as I slowly let go and allowed my mind to quiet and invited this unknown author into my practice, this is what came next:

May I be love

May I be peace

May I be truth

The longer I sat and the more accepting I became, a sense of wonder, invitation and encouragement emerged in my spirit.  I intuitively knew that I could not in any way control or manipulate this new friend, so I simply remained still and open.  And eventually my friend spoke again:

I am love

I am peace

I am truth

I am

I am

I am
