She realized a long time ago
She’s not a keeper
She’s always been the throw away girl
She’s never understood
The reasons though.
Her heart was open
So much love to give
When she gave them a chance
She wanted the same
But, one after the next
They used her and left
Until pain built up walls
The only protection she had
She knows her worth
She knows her faults
She’s not perfect
She’s real
The men she saw some hope in
The men she let her guard down for
Did not care to keep her
Did not care to really see her
They got what they wanted
Then tossed her aside
Always for another
Always for a keeper
She learned to be alone
Like it or not
But, even when she’s strongest
Even in her aloneness
She holds out hope
That someone, someday
Will see her worth
Will think she’s a keeper
And maybe someday
She’ll no longer be
Just a throw away girl.
