Trump Stumps British Journalists.

I admit I’m a little behind on the news this week. Not by choice, but by what I call self-preservation. I “turtled” myself, only barely peeking out of my shell.

Okay, so maybe it was by choice. You say tomato and I say tomahto—or likely the other way around since I’m from the midwest. But I digress.

President Trump’s recent trip abroad and the clean-up that has ensued since his return feels like I’ve taken a dive off the deep end. Only here’s the bright side: I’m not alone.

In today’s unsettled American political landscape, I must admit that this clip from Trevor Noah brightened my mood immensely. Not only does he compare the president’s trip to that of a traveling Godzilla, but he also empathized with journalists who had covered the visit.

For a small moment, I’m going to take some peace from the fact that we’ve gained some understanding and, dare I say it, empathy, from across the pond. The world was watching, and you know what? I’m glad they were.

In order for change to take place, a problem must first be identified. Journalists from the UK were flummoxed by President Trump’s denials and his war on “fake news” when it landed in their laps.

There’s a sense of unification to be found in shared confusion.

Here’s to the journalists, wherever they may be, who are navigating these stormy seas. They’re taking the hit so that we, the people, can remain educated enough to give a d*mn and to step up and do something.

They are the life preservers and we have to start swimming.

“The uploader has not made this video available in your country.” I went and found the video myself, but having this error message pop in an elephant journal post is a bit disappointing. It seems that if your post is going to be included with a round up of good things to read (Congratulations BTW), then making sure the links/videos/images work for everyone seems like a good idea.

This is a bit unfair, I’m British and the sentence you wrote about maybe gaining understanding and empathy is not true. We are already very aware of the monster that Trump is and have been very understanding and empathic towards what he is capable of for a long time now!! The world beyond the US know what Trump is like.
