Clean slate
Through the remains
Of a life, I once lived
I walk softly by
And feel the whispers
Fill the ash and plume
With cries of forgotten
Sadness cleansed
Triumph over the clinging
Belongings of identity
Trying to weave into my being
Things worked and sweated over
No longer have their hold
Only memories remain
Of a heart expressing
The only imprint
Of a soul that walks barefoot
Through the place that
Had its hold on me
Belongings, now rubble
A childhood home, cradling
The past, I now release
Renewed I start again
Like a sprout pushing towards the light
Stronger knowing all I need
Is within me and the strength
Of spirit to raise me up once again
