I posted an image two months after active service; an image of my shoes and a caption:
“Your journey begins here. No one can fill your shoes like you. You are important to the world. Laugh in the face of fear and doubt. Run your race like only you can.”
I was a homeless veteran during the coldest time of the year, in deep depression, living between friends, my car and my storage unit.
I put my shoes and socks nearby when I slept. When I woke, regardless of the time or temperature, I put on my shoes and went for a walk. I knew if I could stand, I could walk; and if I could walk, I had much to be grateful for. And eventually, I recovered.
Read the caption. Share this with your loved ones, especially Veterans. No matter how bad things seem there’s always hope and angels dressed as people to help along the way. Every step, every breath, every smile counts and adds up. #NeverQuit #NeverGiveUp #ShareWithaVeteran
