Better Public Transit, Biking and Walking Directions.

I’m already a big Hopstop user. It launched in my first year living in New York City and it did indeed help me to figure out one of the world’s most extensive transit systems.  Now I’m happy to see that it has expanded to include other cities like San Francisco and Washington D.C.

I sadly can’t keep a bike where I live, but I just found out about Ride the City, “safe bike routes made easy” and while it’s currently still New York-centric, also something I’d like to see grow.  In the meantime, check out the Google Maps ‘Bike There’ blog, where you can sign a petition for Google Maps to get bike directions on their main page.

However let’s give Google some credit, they did just launch walking directions on the Maps page in beta this past week.  It looks like the company is taking a step in the right direction towards making the use of sustainable transportation even easier.
