Racing with Gravity: Soapbox Derby at Red Rocks (video)

If you are a AltSports follower, RedBull has attached its name and brand to everything in the non-mainstream action sports world. However you feel about the drink, RedBull does seem to promote very cool events year-in and year-out. Colorado got a taurine-infused taste of some SoapBox racing at Red Rocks in Morrison late last year.

I have never seen so many cars trying to get into Red Rocks – the police estimated it was more than 20k people. The racing was an insatiably fun, creative and a particularly eco promotion for racing without petroleum. Of course, Soapbox isn’t a new sport, and has been around since the Little Rascals was on the TV set but nothing like a modern take on an always joyous sport.

Teams came from all around the world and the US to compete in the short timed downhill section, and there were some rather creative and clever entries… see the video below :
