For centuries acupuncture and traditional Chinese Medicine have been used to treat illness and promote health and wellness. Today, acupuncture continues to be known for its healing capabilities through restoring and balancing energy flow throughout the body. However, what most people may be unaware of is that acupuncture is also used to prevent aging through a facial acupuncture procedure known as Constitutional Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture. Does this mean needles are placed in your face? The answer is yes, but don’t fret- although this procedure is not for the faint of heart, it is an effective way to restore and rejuvenate the skin, prevent aging and improve the look and feel of the skin naturally, without invasive surgery or artificial products.
As a proponent of alternative health and wellness therapies, I consider myself pretty attuned to the diverse treatments out there- from bodywork to meditation, my experience with holistic treatments for stress management and overall wellness has led me to believe that there is a natural way to solve almost any ailment (except of course broken bones or illnesses requiring any type of surgery). As “in the know” as I thought I was, I had never heard of using needles to prevent wrinkles- it was not until my close friend Lorita, who owns her own acupuncture practice, informed me that she had become certified for Constitutional Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture that I learned of this natural remedy to the inevitable aging process.
So how does Constitutional Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture work? In Chinese medical theory when Qi, or life force energy, flows freely throughout the body, blood circulation can effectively carry nutrients to the internal organs and to the skin, reflecting bright, vibrant skin tone free of under eye dark circles, redness and puffiness. When energy is unbalanced throughout the body, not only does the skin appear pale and dull, but is more likely to show the effects of everyday stress and wrinkles. Through the correction of energy imbalances throughout the body, Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture not only increases overall energy but also enhances the immune system. The needles inserted into the facial skin to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles and tighten loose skin through creating small “micro injuries” that stimulate the production of collagen, therefore softening lines and preventing future wrinkles.
It seems pretty amazing that tiny needles can reverse years of wear, sun damage, pollution, unhealthy lifestyle practices, etc.,; however, like any alternative wellness treatment, the positive results of Constitutional Facial Acupuncture are seen after successive treatments, most typically a series of 10 weekly or semi-weekly visits. While you will leave Lorita’s practice feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, it will take more than one treatment to visibly correct signs of aging and prevent future wrinkles. Although multiple appointments are required to achieve visible results, each visit is an opportunity to relax, calm the mind and revitalize, as each treatment not only consists of the acupuncture treatment, but is accompanied by an herbal facemask and an herbal “crème vital” treatment, infusing the skin with essential oils and calming the spirit with soothing aromatherapy.
While Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is not an inexpensive endeavor, the price of the treatment is well below conventional medical spa procedures and surgeries. Personally, if I am going to spend money on aesthetics, I choose to promote the alternative. Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is an ideal way to unwind and prevent the signs of aging by allowing the body to heal itself, naturally.
