Copenhagen: City of Cyclists Bike Commuter Video.

bike porn

When it comes to ski movies, a successful low-budget genre where they repeatedly show boys and girls snowboarding down crazy mountains, movies that are light on plot and heavy on action, slo mo, close ups and gorgeous money shots (skiing off a cliff)…they call the genre Ski Porn.

Same with climbing films. And so, I inaugurate Bike Commuter Porn: Bike Porn: a new genre high on “action,” low on plot…that turns on Daily Bike Commuters everywhere. This video makes me happy, it excites my endorphins, I wanna watch it again and again, yes!, and then do it myself, with my friends.

Via the good folks at Treehugger, this was my favorite Tweet of today.

Video (check out the blue lanes, we should have those in US, love it). Be sure to click the image on bottom right of video and watch full-screen:

This is a great video. I would love to live in Copenhagen, where it seems both the bicyclists and the drivers are knowledgable of and FOLLOW the appropriate rules of the road, as opposed where I live, in "bike-friendy" Northampton, MA, where cyclists blatantly ignore the rules, and the lanes specifically marked for them. I regularly see cyclists who refuse to stop at lights or stop signs (excuse when asked "It's too hard to stop and then get going again, so I just go through") and who ride tandem/side-by-side or smack in the middle of roadways.

Sadly, one cyclist was killed two years ago in town because he ignored a stop light and turned into the busiest intersection of town illegally. The driver of the vehicle was found to be not at fault.

I'd be curious to see how cyclists automobile drivers are educated in Denmark to be courteous and aware of each other – because it's not happening here.
