Book review: You Are Here: Discovering the Magic of the Present Moment (Thich Nhat Hanh)

In his newest book, Thich Nhat Hanh uses his simple yet elegant style to discuss the concept of presence in our lives.  Mindfulness is one of the most important, yet most difficult to obtain and maintain, aspects of Buddhism, and through discussion interwoven with practice, Hahn guides the reader to awareness within him/herself as well as within the moment.  One of the most approachable and eloquent Buddhist writers, Hanh successfully and effortlessly crosses ecumenical boundaries to write a text that is not exclusively for Buddhists.  The integration of practice within the lessons is an effective method of demonstrating that theory and practice are not separate, that there should be unification between the two.  You Are Here is a gentle but definite reminder that if we are to find any sense of inner peace, the search for it must begin in the present moment.  Coming this month from Shambhala Publications and available from your independent, local bookseller.  (Shop local, shop independent, and tell ’em you saw it on Elephant Journal!)
