Couple months back, I was in LA meeting with Discovery re our Walk the Talk Show, whoot, and went to Ojai for a wonderful yoga program. In between I biked all about LA, easier than you think (tho you get hella sweaty as you’ll see in below vid, but what’s wrong with sweating, it’s good for you), went to parties, had lots of meetings with green folk…and was interviewed on Venice Beach by the lovely, charming, talented, sharp, witty, magnetic, deeply caring host-ess Melissa McGinnis and her pro, resourceful Greenopolis crew on how to Green our Yoga Practice.
You might think yogis are “green” minded, and many are. But fact is many of us still drive, solo, our lovely SUVs, unfurl our PVC (cancer, anyone?) non-biodegradable mats and then, when we’re done, empty recycle bins out on the street (okay, okay). ~ ed.
So, at good long last, here’s part one:
Melissa McGinnis of Greenopolis interviews Waylon Lewis: how to Green your Yoga Practice.
Waylon Lewis, the “founder, editor-in-chief, ads sales, and errand boy” of elephant journal speaks with Melissa McGinnis, host of Greenopolis, about his role in the sustainability movement.
Raise a child Buddhist, surround him by a family of english majors, and add in the book “50 ways to Save the Planet” at age 15, and you’ve got Waylon Lewis.
As the founder of elephant journal, elephantjournal dot com, and “elevision,” now “Walk the Talk Show,” the online talk show that raked in over 100,000 views in its first year, Waylon can be quite a workaholic.
Born in Boulder, Colorado, Waylon graduated from Boston University’s top–ranked magazine journalism school. He is a passionate environmentalist, daily bike commuter, mediocre climber and lazy yogi.
His magazine, Elephant Journal – “Your guide to ‘the mindful life,’ combines yoga + organics + sustainability + buddadharma + conscious consumerism + the arts + ecofashion—went online 12 months ago, and has been named to 15 top national new media lists in “green,” “yoga,” and “Buddhism.”
