Hunky Jesus? Oh God, yes. ~ Claire Flannery

Offensive? Funny? Sexy? Religious?

Every Easter, the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence host the Hunky Jesus Contest in San Francisco at Dolores Park.

It draws huge crowds, eager to enjoy the sight of hundreds of beautiful (and not so beautiful…) gay and straight men parading around in their best/worst Jesus get-up. And, of course, only one Godly hottie can earn the much desired Hunky Jesus award.

Here’s a video of such men.

A little bit more about The Sisters:

The organization was founded in 1979 and has grown to global status with “orders” throughout the world. The San Francisco Order is the largest and most prominent. The Sisters are largely a non-profit charity organization that seeks to raise awareness and funds for AIDS, LGBT-related causes and mainstream community service organizations  as well as promoting safer sex and educating the population about the risks and effects of drug use. Wikipedia writes that the San Francisco Order has donated approximately $1 million for various causes. The sisters and their cause is impressive; I’m absolutely for it.

Personally, I could care less about the controversy surrounding parodying all things sacred and holy—what’s more Holy than Humor and Hunkiness?

Keep on keeping on, Sistas.
