Fancy Being an Eco Hero? Soon You Can Be With New Social Media Initiative by Roz Savage

Eco-Heroes: part game, part social media, part environmental challenge.

“Can one person really make a difference? Yes, because every action counts.”

That’s the thought behind the launch of Eco Heroes, a new initiative by ocean rower and environmental activist extraordinaire Roz Savage. Eco Heroes is “a cross between a game, a social media site, and a save-the-world environmental challenge.”

What exactly does that mean? It’s an initiative that is going to use social media to encourage people to be more active in their local and global communities, by doing one green deed a day and sharing it with those around them, as well as their social networks.

As Savage puts it, making a daily habit of green actions, be it riding your bike instead of driving, or remembering to take your reusable water bottle along when you leave the house, creates “ripples of change that will turn the tide of environmental destruction and put the world on course for a better, greener future.”

Users will vote on all the green deeds, giving thumbs up or thumbs down, and resulting in badges for your level of “greendom.”

Sure, it might seem like just another social media trinket to add to the list, but unlike other applications that will remain unnamed (hint: rhymes with Door Stair) checking in and racking up your eco deeds is intended to do some worldly good.

Some might say that it’s just another way to pretend that you’re green, but even if it gets people thinking about changing up their daily habits, that’s already a step in the right direction. There is, after all, nothing wrong with making “green” fun.

The site is open for pre-registration, which means you’ll be the first to find out when the initiative officially launches. You can also sign up via text, by sending “Your name [email protected]” to 360.262.6062.
